As part of the 5th International Conference on Art, Design and Social Sciences, this symposium will discuss the role of AI in contemporary visual arts and interactive media. The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is reshaping contemporary media environments, visual communication, and digital culture. As generative AI, intelligent algorithms, and interactive technologies become increasingly embedded in cultural production and communication processes, new forms of visual expression, creative collaboration, and audience engagement are emerging across digital platforms. AI is no longer merely a technological tool but an influential actor in the production, circulation, and interpretation of cultural content, transforming the relationships among creators, media institutions, platforms, and users. These developments have generated growing academic interest in questions of creativity, authorship, participation, algorithmic mediation, platform governance, and the cultural implications of human-AI interaction. Against this backdrop, examining the intersections of contemporary visual arts, AI creativity, and interactive media has become essential for understanding ongoing transformations in communication, culture, and society.
This symposium aims to examine how artificial intelligence is transforming contemporary visual arts, creative practices, interactive media, and digital communication. While recent advances in generative AI have expanded the possibilities of content creation, artistic experimentation, and audience participation, they have also raised critical questions regarding creativity, authorship, authenticity, ethics, algorithmic governance, and the cultural consequences of human-AI collaboration. Existing discussions often focus either on technological innovation or on artistic applications, leaving insufficient dialogue across the fields of media studies, communication research, digital culture, and creative practice.
The symposium seeks to bridge these perspectives by fostering interdisciplinary conversations on the theoretical, social, cultural, and practical implications of AI-enabled creativity and interaction. Through the exchange of empirical research, conceptual reflections, and innovative case studies, participants are encouraged to explore emerging forms of cultural production, visual communication, platform-mediated participation, and interactive experiences. The symposium aims to advance a deeper understanding of how AI is reshaping creative ecosystems and media environments while promoting responsible, inclusive, and innovative approaches to future development.
This symposium aims to build a platform for scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners to engage in in-depth exchanges and share research findings. We sincerely invite participants to discuss topics related to the intersections of contemporary visual arts, AI creativity, and interactive media, with a focus on, but not limited to, the following themes:
Submissions should demonstrate theoretical significance, methodological rigor, or practical relevance, contributing to a deeper understanding of the transformations that AI is bringing to contemporary culture, communication, media practices, and creative ecosystems.
Accepted papers of the symposium will be published in Communications in Humanities Research (Print ISSN 2753-7064), and will be submitted to Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI), Crossref, CNKI, Portico, Google Scholar and other databases for indexing. The situation may be affected by factors among databases like processing time, workflow, policy, etc.
